The best product doesn't always win. Engineers and creators of great products just read on... it does come full circle. Which had a better screen resolution, Beta or VHS? Which operating system was easier to use DOS or MAC? What measuring system is easier to use, the Metric or US system? Clearly the Beta, Mac and Metric systems are better. But why didn't they win in the marketplace?

The short answer is that it takes much more than a great product to conquer a market. Successful companies master all disciplines within their domains and meld them together with a sound strategy. "Build it and they will come" worked for Kevin Costner in the film "Field of Dreams" but it does not apply to the present day economy. There are countless numbers of great products stacked in graveyards because the public was not persuaded they offered a “better way." However, when great products are surrounded by superior support systems, then a business is created that is very difficult to complete with.
